THE RITE
The Petition
Mons.
Vincenzo D'Addario, Archbishop of Manfredonia-Vieste, accompanied
by the Postulator, approaches the throne of the Holy Father and
requests the Beatification of the Servant of God Pio of Pietrelcina:
Most Blessed Father, the Archbishop of Manfredonia-Vieste humbly
asks Your Holiness to number the Venerable Servant of God Pio of
Pietrelcina among the Blessed.

The formula
Acceding
to the wishes of Our Brother Vincenzo D'Addario, Archbishop of Manfredonia-Vieste,
and many other Brothers in the Bishopric and many of the faithful,
having heard the opinion of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints,
with Our Apostolic Authority We do hereby grant that the Venerable
Servant of God Pio of Pietrelcina henceforth be called Blessed and
that his name may be celebrated every year, in the places and according
to the rules laid down by law, on the day of his birth in heaven, September
23rd. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. |

The Thanksgiving
Most Blessed Father, the Archbishop
of Manfredonia-Vieste thanks Your Holiness for proclaiming Blessed the
Venerable Servant of God Pio of Pietrelcina. |

On 16th June 2002 Holy Father John Paul II wrote Blessed Padre Pio’s
name in the register of Saints.
The Appeal
Cardinal José Saraiva Martins, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, accompanied by the Postulator went to the Holy Father asking for the Canonization of Blessed Padre Pio of Pietralcina to go ahead.
"Highly Blessed Father", the Holy Mother Church asks Your Holiness to write Blessed Padre Pio of Pietralcina's name in the Register of Saints, as so requested by all Christians".

The Phraseology
"In
honour of the Holy Trinity, in exaltation of the Catholic faith
and for the spread of Christian life, with the authority of
Our Lord Jesus Christ, Peter and Paul the Apostle Saints and
Our own, after deep reflection, and asking for divine help on
various occasions and having heard the opinion of many of Our
Brothers in the Episcopacy, we declare and define Padre Pio
of Pietralcina and we write his name in the Register of Saints
and establish that in the Church he be devoutly honoured among
the Saints".

Very Blessed Father, in the name of the Holy Church we thank Your Holiness for this proclamation and ask you for a Papal Letter to be drawn up concerning this Canonization.
